Character
It is anhydrous or contains 1.5 hydrates. Anhydrous form occurs as white, granular powder and hydrated form occurs as white, translucent crystal or granule. It's odorless and smells alkali. I air, it's very deliquescent. It's freely soluble in water andaqueous solution is alkaline. It's insoluble in ethanol or ether.
Application
- In production of potassium silicate, potassium phosphate, and other potassium composites
- In production of optical glass, TV tube glass, PDP glass, etc
- As food additives such as noodle enhancer, cocoa
- In detergents, pesticides, feeds, etc
- In the fertilizer industry for removal of carbon dioxide from the ammonia production synthesis gas coming from the steam reformer
- As an ingredient in welding fluxes, and in the flux coating on arc welding rods
