Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (also called Butyldiglycol, CAS 112-34-5 ) is a colorless liquid with a slight ether odor. It is a flammable liquid. Stable to alkali, ether bond breaks when reacting with strong acid. Under the action of oxygen in the air, peroxides can be formed. Can be miscible with acetone, ethanol, 1,2-dichloroethane, ethyl acetate, toluene, ether, heptane, castor oil, pine oil, isopropyl ether, etc. Used as a dispersant, as well as an inert solvent for extracting fatty acids and alkyl phosphates from dilute fatty acid solutions, and for uranium extraction.
