3-Aminophthalhydrazide (Luminol) is off-white to light yellow powder,the melting point 300 °C(lit.), water solution <0.1 g/100 mL at 19 ºC. It is a chemically fluorescent molecule. Luminol is a chemiluminescent probe that has been used to detect myeloperoxidase-mediated oxidative events in granulocytes and for chemiluminescence analysis of metal cations and blood.

Application
(1) Luminol is a chemiluminescence reagent , luminol is used by forensic investigators to detect trace amounts of blood left at crime scenes, as it reacts with iron found in hemoglobin. It is used by biologists in cellular assays for the detection ofcopper, iron, and cyanides, as well as of specific proteins by western blot.
